Biography

Robert Joy is a Canadian actor. Born on 17 August 1951 in Montreal, he grew up in St. John's, Newfoundland. He studied at Memorial University of Newfoundland and attended Corpus Christi College, Oxford, as a Rhodes Scholar.

Joy began his career with the Newfoundland comedy troupe CODCO and has worked extensively in theatre, including Shakespearean productions and Broadway shows. His film roles include Dave in Atlantic City (1980), for which he received a Genie Award nomination, Harry K. Thaw in Ragtime (1981), and Jim in Desperately Seeking Susan (1985). He is best known for playing medical examiner Sid Hammerback in the television series CSI: NY (2005–2013).

Other notable film appearances include Land of the Dead (2005), The Hills Have Eyes (2006), Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007) and Don't Look Up (2021). He has also composed music for film.
