Biography
Roger Corman was an American film director, producer and distributor. He directed and produced The Masque of the Red Death (1964), one of eight adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe stories that he made between 1960 and 1964.
Born in Detroit, he produced and directed hundreds of low-budget films, many of which developed cult followings. He founded New World Pictures in 1970 and later New Concorde, and distributed films by directors including Ingmar Bergman, Federico Fellini, François Truffaut and Akira Kurosawa. In 2009 he received an Academy Honorary Award for his contributions to film and for mentoring numerous filmmakers.
