Biography
Romola Sadie Garai is a British actress. Born on 6 August 1982 in Hong Kong, she attended the City of London School for Girls and later graduated with a BA in English Literature from the Open University.
She began acting in the early 2000s with roles in Nicholas Nickleby (2002), I Capture the Castle (2003) and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2004). Garai is known for her work in period dramas including Vanity Fair (2004), Atonement (2007), Amazing Grace (2006) and Suffragette (2015). On television she has appeared in Emma (2009), The Hour (2011–2012) and Vigil (2021).
Her film credits also include One Life (2023), in which she played Doreen Warriner, and the series Just Act Normal (2025), as Ms. Jenkins. Garai has directed short films and her feature debut Amulet (2020).
