Biography
Royce D. Applegate was an American actor and screenwriter. Born Royce Dwayne Applegate on 25 December 1939 in Midwest City, Oklahoma, he was first billed as Roy Applegate and appeared in numerous film and television roles from the late 1960s until his death.
His credits include the role of Dutch Doogan in Seabiscuit (2003), Man with Bullhorn in O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), Buckwalter in Splash (1984), and Chief Petty Officer Manilow Crocker in the first season of the television series seaQuest DSV. He also portrayed Confederate General James L. Kemper in Gettysburg (1993) and Gods and Generals (2003). As a screenwriter, his credits include Loose Shoes (1980).
Applegate died on 1 January 2003 in a house fire at his home in the Hollywood Hills, California, aged 63.
