Biography
Royston Tickner (8 September 1922 – 7 July 1997) was a British actor. Born Roy Albert Tickner in Leicester, the son of a tailor, he trained as an actor at Scarborough repertory theatre. He served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War and appeared in stage tours, including productions of The Rotters and Rebecca, before a break from the theatre between 1947 and 1958, when he worked as a lighthouse keeper, miner, fireman and publican.
Tickner resumed acting in 1958. His television credits include roles in Doctor Who (as Steinberger P. Green and Robbins), The Avengers, Porridge (1974) as Sgt. Norris, Last of the Summer Wine, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em and Danger UXB. Film appearances include uncredited parts in Becket (1964), Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1969) and Anne of the Thousand Days (1969), and Tomescu in The Keep (1983).
