Biography
Ry Cooder is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter and film score composer. Born in Los Angeles, he began playing guitar as a child and worked as a session musician in the 1960s before releasing solo albums exploring American roots music.
He has composed scores for numerous films, including Paris, Texas (1984), Streets of Fire (1984), Crossroads (1986), Dead Man Walking (1995) and My Blueberry Nights (2007). He also produced the Buena Vista Social Club album (1997) and contributed to its related documentary.
Cooder has collaborated with artists including the Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Captain Beefheart and Ali Farka Touré, and formed the supergroup Little Village with Nick Lowe, John Hiatt and Jim Keltner.
