Biography
Ryu Seong-hie is a South Korean production designer and art director. She studied ceramics at Hongik University in Seoul, earning a bachelor's degree and a master's in industrial crafts, before completing a master's in production design at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. She began working in film in 2001.
Ryu has collaborated frequently with directors Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-ho. Her credits include production design on Oldboy (2003), Memories of Murder (2003), The Host (2006), Mother (2009), The Handmaiden (2016), Decision to Leave (2022) and No Other Choice (2025). In 2016 she became the first Korean recipient of the Vulcain Prize for Technical Artistry at the Cannes Film Festival for her work on The Handmaiden.
She received the inaugural Camellia Award at the 2024 Busan International Film Festival for her contributions to women in film.
