Biography

Sam McDaniel (1886–1962) was an American actor who appeared in more than 210 films and television shows between 1929 and 1960. He was frequently cast in supporting roles as butlers, porters, valets and servants.

He played the ship's cook Doc in the 1937 film Captains Courageous. Other credits include uncredited parts in The Public Enemy (1931), Grand Hotel (1932) and Double Indemnity (1944), as well as the porter in the 1955 I Love Lucy episode 'The Great Train Robbery', his only appearance on the series. He was the older brother of actresses Hattie McDaniel and Etta McDaniel, and began his career in radio and vaudeville.
