Biography
Sharat Raju is an American director and writer. He was born in Chicago and raised in Darien, Illinois. He earned a BA in English from the University of Michigan and an MFA in directing from the American Film Institute.
Raju is known for directing episodes of numerous television series, including The Walking Dead (four episodes, 2020–2022), Fear the Walking Dead (2018–2022), Bosch: Legacy (2022–2025), Criminal Minds (2016–2026), The Good Doctor (2018), 9-1-1: Lone Star (2020–2021) and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. His early short film American Made (2003) won multiple festival awards and aired on PBS’s Independent Lens.
He has also directed documentaries on immigrant experiences in the United States, often in collaboration with his wife, filmmaker Valarie Kaur. Raju previously worked in casting on films including The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions.
