Biography
Silas Howard is an American film and television director, writer, actor and musician. He grew up in Vermont and moved to San Francisco in the early 1990s, where he played guitar in the queercore band Tribe 8 under the name Lynn Flipper. In 2001 he co-directed, co-wrote and co-starred in the feature By Hook or by Crook with Harry Dodge.
Howard earned an MFA in directing from UCLA. He directed three episodes of the series Transparent in 2015 and 2016, becoming the show's first transgender director. His other television directing credits include episodes of Dickinson, Pose, This Is Us, The Fosters and Faking It. He is a 2015 Guggenheim Fellow.
