Biography
Simon Wells is an English film director of animation and live-action films. Born on 19 October 1961 in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, he attended The Perse School and De Montfort University, where he studied audio-visual design. He began his career at Richard Williams Animation as a supervising animator on Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988).
Wells directed three films for Amblimation: An American Tail: Fievel Goes West (1991), We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story (1993) and Balto (1995). He later joined DreamWorks Animation, where he co-directed The Prince of Egypt (1998) with Brenda Chapman and Steve Hickner. His live-action directorial debut was the 2002 adaptation of his great-grandfather H. G. Wells's novel The Time Machine. He has also worked extensively as a story artist on numerous animated features and directed Mars Needs Moms (2011).
