Biography
Slavko Vorkapić, also credited as Slavko Vorkapich, was a Serbian-born film director, editor and montagist who worked in Hollywood from the 1920s. He arrived in the United States in 1920 and reached Hollywood the following year, initially working as a painter and actor before specialising in montage sequences and special effects.
He co-directed the experimental short The Life and Death of 9413: A Hollywood Extra (1928) and created montage sequences for numerous features, including The Good Earth (1937). Vorkapić later served as head of the film department at the University of Southern California and taught at the Belgrade Film and Theatre Academy. He died in Mijas, Spain, in 1976.
