Biography
Stephen Spinella is an American actor. Born in Naples, Italy, he grew up in Arizona and trained at the University of Arizona and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
He originated the role of Prior Walter in the Broadway productions of Angels in America: Millennium Approaches (1993) and Angels in America: Perestroika (1994), winning consecutive Tony Awards for Best Featured Actor in a Play and Best Actor in a Play. He received a further Tony nomination for James Joyce’s The Dead (2000).
Spinella’s film roles include Rick Stokes in Milk (2008), Asa Vintner Litton in Lincoln (2012) and Douglas in The Jackal (1997). He has appeared in numerous television series, among them Grey’s Anatomy, The Mentalist and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
