Biography
Suzanne Shepherd (born Sadie Gertrude Stern) was an American actress and theatre director. She was born on 31 October 1934 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and died on 17 November 2023 in Manhattan, New York.
She studied acting with Sanford Meisner and was a founding member of the Compass Players in the early 1960s. Shepherd began her screen career in her fifties and became known for maternal roles, including Karen's mother in Goodfellas (1990), Mary DeAngelis in the HBO series The Sopranos (1999–2007), and Mrs Scarlini in Requiem for a Dream (2000). Other credits include Uncle Buck (1989), Lolita (1997) and Blue Bloods (2010).
