Biography
Sydney Freeland is a Native American director and screenwriter who is a citizen of the Navajo Nation. She was born in Gallup, New Mexico, and studied at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, where she earned a BFA in computer animation and an MFA in film. She is a Fulbright scholar.
Freeland wrote and directed the feature Drunktown's Finest (2014), which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Her second feature, Deidra & Laney Rob a Train (2017), also debuted at Sundance and was later released on Netflix. She directed the Netflix film Rez Ball (2024). Her television directing credits include episodes of Grey's Anatomy, Fear the Walking Dead, Reservation Dogs, Echo and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. In 2026 she directed two episodes of the Netflix series Little House on the Prairie.
