Biography
Theadora Van Runkle, born Dorothy Schweppe, was an American costume designer. She was born on 27 March 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and began her career as a fashion illustrator. After working as a sketch artist on the 1966 film Hawaii, she received her first credit as a costume designer on Bonnie and Clyde (1967).
Van Runkle designed costumes for films including Bullitt (1968), The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), The Godfather Part II (1974) and Peggy Sue Got Married (1986). She earned Academy Award nominations for Bonnie and Clyde, The Godfather Part II and Peggy Sue Got Married, and won a Primetime Emmy Award for the series Wizards and Warriors (1983). She received the Costume Designers Guild Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002. She died in Los Angeles on 4 November 2011.
