Biography

Thomas Thieme is a German actor. Born on 29 October 1948 in Weimar, he trained at the Staatliche Schauspielschule in East Berlin and began his career with stage work at theatres including those in Magdeburg and Halle.

After emigrating from East Germany in 1984, he performed at the Schauspiel Frankfurt, Burgtheater in Vienna, Schaubühne in Berlin and Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, where he was named actor of the year in 2000 for his performance as Richard III. He has appeared in more than 100 film and television productions since the mid-1970s.

Thieme is known for roles including Martin Bormann in Downfall (2004), Bruno Hempf in The Lives of Others (2006), Richter Dr. Prinzing in The Baader Meinhof Complex (2008) and Karl Zörgiebel in the series Babylon Berlin (2017).
