T'Nia Miller's authority comes with wit and feeling, qualities that make her valuable in a crowded ensemble. We prefer the anxious family drama of Years and Years to the noisier horror surrounding her in The Fall of the House of Usher.

Miller is particularly useful when a drama threatens to become a lecture. Her Celeste Bisme-Lyons in Years and Years (2019) brings authority and wit to a family that Russell T Davies burdens with too many issues to illustrate. We worried about the Lyons family because the performances kept them recognisable as people, even when the writing seemed determined to turn them into examples. Miller's quiet intensity fits that task: she helps keep our attention on the people while the programme keeps adding to their troubles.
JJ, the masculine-presenting wedding photographer she played in her first lead, Stud Life (2012), is some distance from Hannah Grose in The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020). Between them came DC Wilton in Witless (2016–2018) and the wider recognition of Years and Years. The subsequent move towards international horror and science fiction makes sense for an actor who can bring emotional depth to an ensemble. Bly Manor, made with Mike Flanagan, gives that quality a place alongside the authority we value in Celeste.
Flanagan brought her back as Victorine LaFourcade in The Fall of the House of Usher (2023), a less satisfying programme. The series is handsome, gory and often good fun, and Bruce Greenwood is superb, but it shouts too often. Our reservation is the writing's insistence on being noticed: the pleasure of spotting Poe references wears thin, whatever the cast brings to them.
The quality we would like to see tested further is her wit. Authority can become a routine casting choice, especially in dramas already crowded with explanations, and repeatedly asking Miller to supply the seriousness would be a waste. Years and Years is the place to begin, but a less burdened comedy would be a welcome way to find out what else she can do.
Biography
T'Nia Miller is a British actress. She was born in London on 2 March 1985 and graduated from the Guildford School of Acting in 2004.
Miller made her television debut in Dubplate Drama (2007) and later appeared in The Bill, Holby City and the film Stud Life (2012). She had a starring role in the series Witless (2016–2018) and is known for playing Celeste Bisme-Lyons in Years and Years (2019), Hannah Grose in The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020) and Zephyr Halima in Foundation (2021).
Her other credits include Victorine LaFourcade in The Fall of the House of Usher (2023) and Jocasta in the forthcoming series VisionQuest (2026).
