Biography

Togo Igawa is a Japanese actor based in England. Born Yoshiyuki Baba on 26 September 1946 in Shibuya, Tokyo, he trained at the Haiyuza Theatre Company Acting School and Toho Gakuen College of Drama and Music. He founded the Black Tent Theatre in Japan before moving to the United Kingdom.

In 1986 he became the first Japanese member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Igawa is known for film roles including General Hasegawa in The Last Samurai (2003), Tanaka in Memoirs of a Geisha (2005) and Wang Yong in The Gentlemen (2020). He has also voiced Hiro in the Thomas & Friends franchise from 2009 and was nominated for a BAFTA award in 2012 for his performance in the video game Total War: Shogun 2.
