Biography
Tony Garnett was a British film and television producer. Born Anthony Edward Lewis on 3 April 1936 in Erdington, Birmingham, he died on 12 January 2020.
He is best known for his long collaboration with director Ken Loach. Their joint credits include the television play Cathy Come Home (1966) and the feature film Kes (1969), on which Garnett also received a screenplay credit. He later founded World Productions and produced series including Between the Lines (1992–1994), This Life (1996–1997) and Ballykissangel (1996–2001).
Garnett’s other producing credits include the films Family Life (1971), Earth Girls Are Easy (1988), Follow That Bird (1985) and Beautiful Thing (1996). He wrote the memoir The Day the Music Died (2016).
