Biography

Val Avery was an American character actor. Born Sebouh Der Abrahamian on 14 July 1924 in Philadelphia, he trained at the Bessie V. Hicks School of Drama after serving as an Army flight instructor during the Second World War and began his career in live television.

He appeared in more than 100 films and over 300 television episodes between 1953 and 2004. His credits include The Magnificent Seven (1960), Papillon (1973) as Pascal, five films directed by John Cassavetes, and Donnie Brasco (1997). He was married to actress Margot Stevenson from 1953 until his death on 12 December 2009 in New York City.
