Biography
Vivien Hillgrove, also credited as Vivien Hillgrove Gilliam, is a film editor and sound editor. She has worked in narrative and documentary films for over fifty years and is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
In the 1980s she served as dialogue editor on Amadeus (1984), The Right Stuff (1983) and Blue Velvet (1986). As picture editor she collaborated with Walter Murch on Philip Kaufman’s The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988) and with Dede Allen on Kaufman’s Henry & June (1990). Her documentary credits include multiple films by Lourdes Portillo and Deann Borshay Liem; she won the Best Editing Award at the Asia Pacific Film Festival for In the Matter of Cha Jung Hee and co-wrote First Person Plural.
Hillgrove has advised Sundance Documentary Composer/Edit Labs, the Latino Producers Academy and Chicken & Egg Pictures. She directed and produced the autobiographical documentary Vivien’s Wild Ride.
