Biography
Al Jean is an American writer and producer. He graduated from Harvard University in 1981 and began his writing career in the 1980s with fellow Harvard alumnus Mike Reiss. Together they wrote for programmes including The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, ALF and It's Garry Shandling's Show.
In 1989 Jean and Reiss joined the writing staff of the animated series The Simpsons, becoming two of its original writers. They served as showrunners for seasons three and four. After leaving to create the series The Critic, which aired in 1994–95, Jean returned to The Simpsons in season ten and became sole showrunner from season thirteen until stepping down after season thirty-seven. He co-wrote the screenplay for The Simpsons Movie (2007) and several Simpsons shorts.
