Biography
Albert Lewin (1894–1968) was an American film producer, screenwriter and director. He began his Hollywood career in the early 1920s as a reader for Samuel Goldwyn and joined MGM in 1924 as a screenwriter. He rose to head of the studio’s script department and became a close associate of Irving Thalberg, serving as associate producer on several major MGM films of the 1930s, including Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) and The Good Earth (1937).
After Thalberg’s death, Lewin moved to Paramount in 1937, where he produced The Lady Eve (1941) among other films. He began directing in 1942 and made six features, writing the screenplays for all of them. His directorial credits include The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945) and Pandora and the Flying Dutchman (1951).
