Biography
Allan Scott is a Scottish screenwriter and producer. Born Allan George Shiach on 16 September 1939 in Elgin, Moray, he writes and produces under the pseudonym Allan Scott. He was educated at Gordonstoun School and McGill University in Montreal.
Scott began his career writing for television in the UK and US while serving as a non-executive director of the Macallan-Glenlivet distillery, later becoming its chairman and chief executive from 1979 to 1997. He co-wrote the screenplay for Don't Look Now (1973) with Chris Bryant and collaborated on several films directed by Nicolas Roeg, including Castaway (1986), The Witches (1990), Cold Heaven (1991) and Two Deaths (1995). His other credits include The Preacher's Wife (1996), In Love and War (1996) and The Fourth Angel (2001). He was co-creator and executive producer of the Netflix series The Queen's Gambit (2020). He has received an Edgar Award and a Writers' Guild Award, and was nominated for a BAFTA for Regeneration (1997).
