Biography
Allan Scott was an American screenwriter. Born in Arlington, New Jersey, he attended Amherst College and was a Rhodes scholar at Oxford University. He began writing for the stage in New York before moving to Hollywood in the 1930s.
Scott wrote or co-wrote the screenplays for several Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers musicals at RKO, including Top Hat (1935), Roberta (1935), Follow the Fleet (1936), Swing Time (1936), Shall We Dance (1937) and Carefree (1938). He later worked on films such as The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. (1953) and Imitation of Life (1959). He received an Academy Award nomination for the screenplay of So Proudly We Hail! (1943).
Scott was the father of actress Pippa Scott and brother of producer and screenwriter Adrian Scott.
