Biography
Ginger Rogers, born Virginia Katherine McMath, was an American actress and dancer. She began her career in vaudeville after winning a Charleston contest and made her Broadway debut in Girl Crazy (1930).
She appeared as Ann Lowell in 42nd Street (1933) and Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933). Rogers is best known for her partnership with Fred Astaire in ten musical films, including The Gay Divorcee (1934), Top Hat (1935) and Swing Time (1936). She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Kitty Foyle (1940).
Her other notable roles include those in Stage Door (1937), The Major and the Minor (1942) and Monkey Business (1952). She also appeared on television in series such as The Love Boat (1977).
