Biography
Pandro S. Berman was an American film producer. He began his career in the 1920s as an assistant director and film editor, joining RKO Radio Pictures in 1930. He advanced to producer and took on supervising responsibilities in 1931, remaining at the studio until 1939.
At RKO he produced several Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers musicals, including The Gay Divorcee (1934), Top Hat (1935) and Swing Time (1936), as well as films with Katharine Hepburn. Berman moved to MGM in 1940, where his productions included Father of the Bride (1950), Ivanhoe (1952), Blackboard Jungle (1955) and Jailhouse Rock (1957). He later worked independently and received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1976.
