Biography
Arthur Hoyt was an American film character actor who appeared in more than 275 films over a 34-year career, about a third of them silent. Born in Georgetown, Colorado, he made his Broadway debut in 1905 and began his film career in earnest in 1916.
Hoyt is known for roles including Professor Summerlee in The Lost World (1925), directed by his brother Harry O. Hoyt, and Zeke in It Happened One Night (1934). In the 1940s he was a member of Preston Sturges' unofficial stock company of character actors, appearing in all of Sturges' films from 1940 to 1947. He retired from acting around the age of 70.
