Biography

Barrington Pheloung was an Australian composer and conductor who worked primarily in the United Kingdom. Born in Manly, New South Wales, he moved to London at the age of 18 and studied composition, conducting, double bass and guitar at the Royal College of Music.

He composed the theme and incidental music for the television series Inspector Morse (1987–2000) and its spin-offs Lewis (2007–2015) and Endeavour (2012–2023). His film scores include Truly Madly Deeply (1990), Hilary and Jackie (1998) and Shopgirl (2005). He also wrote more than fifty ballet scores and received BAFTA nominations for his work on Inspector Morse and Hilary and Jackie.
