Biography

Basil Poledouris, also credited as Basil Konstantine Poledouris, was an American composer, conductor and orchestrator of film and television scores. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, on 21 August 1945, he studied at the University of Southern California, where he met directors John Milius and Randal Kleiser, with whom he later collaborated.

Poledouris composed scores for films including Conan the Barbarian (1982), RoboCop (1987), The Hunt for Red October (1990) and Starship Troopers (1997). He won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited Series, Movie, or Special for his work on the miniseries Lonesome Dove (1989). He died in Los Angeles on 8 November 2006.
