Biography
Bernd Tauber is a German actor. He was born on 7 May 1950 in Göppingen. He trained at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart from 1971 to 1973 and worked with Jerzy Grotowski at the Teatr Laboratorium in Wrocław.
Tauber is best known for playing Kriechbaum, the chief quartermaster-navigator, in Wolfgang Petersen's film Das Boot (1981); he reprised a similar role in the 1985 television miniseries. He also appeared as Benno Zimmermann in the ARD series Lindenstraße (1985–1988), the first HIV-positive character in a German television series. Other credits include Das Brot des Bäckers (1976), for which he received the Bundesfilmpreis, and The State I Am In (2000) as Achim. He has worked extensively in theatre and on German television series such as Tatort.
