Biography

Bernie Mac was an American actor and stand-up comedian. Born Bernard Jeffrey McCullough in Chicago, he began performing comedy in the 1970s and rose to prominence as a member of The Original Kings of Comedy alongside Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer and D. L. Hughley.

He appeared in numerous films, including Friday (1995), The Players Club (1998) and Bad Santa (2003). His most prominent film roles were as Frank Catton in the Ocean's trilogy (Ocean's Eleven, 2001; Ocean's Twelve, 2004; Ocean's Thirteen, 2007). He also starred in the Fox sitcom The Bernie Mac Show (2001–2006), for which he received two Emmy Award nominations.

Mac died in Chicago on 9 August 2008, aged 50, from complications of pneumonia.
