Biography
Bruno Coulais is a French composer of film soundtracks. Born in Paris on 13 January 1954, he trained on the violin and piano with the intention of writing contemporary classical music before turning to film scoring.
His early work included television and documentaries. He gained prominence with the score for the 1996 documentary Microcosmos, which won a César Award, followed by scores for Himalaya (1999) and The Crimson Rivers (2000). He composed the music for The Chorus (2004) and the animated feature Coraline (2009).
Coulais has also scored animated films including The Secret of Kells (2009), Song of the Sea (2014) and Wolfwalkers (2020). He has received multiple César Awards and other honours for his work.
