Biography
Paul Young is an Irish animator, illustrator, cartoonist, producer and director. He is co-founder and CEO of the Kilkenny-based animation studio Cartoon Saloon, established in 1999 with Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey.
Young studied art and design at the University of Ulster before completing an animation course at Ballyfermot College of Further Education in Dublin. He has produced the studio’s feature films The Secret of Kells (2009), Song of the Sea (2014), The Breadwinner (2017) and Wolfwalkers (2020), several of which received Academy Award nominations. He also directed the Star Wars: Visions short Screecher’s Reach (2023).
Young is an IFTA and Annie Award winner and has received Oscar, Emmy and BAFTA nominations. He has additionally worked as an executive producer on television series including Puffin Rock and Dorg Van Dango.
