Biography

Caroline Thompson is an American screenwriter, novelist, director and producer. Born in Washington, D.C., she graduated from Amherst College in 1978. Her first novel, First Born (1983), led to work in screenwriting.

She wrote the story and screenplay for Edward Scissorhands (1990) and the screenplays for The Addams Family (1991) and The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). Other credits include the screenplay for Corpse Bride (2005) and directing Black Beauty (1994). She has also adapted stage versions of Edward Scissorhands with Matthew Bourne.
