Biography
Caterina Boratto was an Italian actress. She appeared in around 50 films between 1936 and 1993.
Born in Turin, she studied singing at the Musical Lyceum there. Noted by director Guido Brignone, she made her screen debut in To Live (1937) alongside Tito Schipa. She became a star in the Telefoni Bianchi genre and received a seven-year contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer that was not fulfilled owing to the Second World War.
After largely retiring from acting following a 1951 film, she returned in the 1960s with key roles in Federico Fellini’s 8½ (1963), as the mysterious lady, and Juliet of the Spirits (1965). From the late 1960s she resumed appearing regularly in films, including Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975), and was also active in television.
