Biography
Ennio Flaiano (5 March 1910 – 20 November 1972) was an Italian screenwriter, playwright, novelist, journalist and drama critic. Born in Pescara, he died in Rome. He is best known for his screenwriting collaborations with Federico Fellini.
Flaiano co-wrote ten screenplays with Fellini, often with Tullio Pinelli, including La Strada (1954), La Dolce Vita (1960) and 8½ (1963). He also contributed to La Notte (1961), Juliet of the Spirits (1965) and The 10th Victim (1965), and worked on Roman Holiday (1953).
Trained as an architect, Flaiano began in journalism before turning to screenplays after the Second World War. His novel Tempo di uccidere (1947; A Time to Kill) won the inaugural Strega Prize.
