Biography
Charles Lederer was an American screenwriter and film director. Born in New York City, he was raised in California by his aunt, the actress Marion Davies, after his parents divorced. He began his career as a journalist before entering screenwriting in the early 1930s.
Lederer collaborated frequently with Ben Hecht. His credits include the screenplay for His Girl Friday (1940), co-written with Hecht, as well as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), The Spirit of St. Louis (1957), Ocean's Eleven (1960) and Mutiny on the Bounty (1962). He also wrote and directed Never Steal Anything Small (1959). He died on 5 March 1976.
