Biography
Crispian Sallis is a British production designer and set decorator. Born Timothy Crispian Sallis on 24 June 1959 in England, he is the son of actors Peter Sallis and Elaine Usher. He entered the film industry straight from school as a production assistant to director Michael Winner on The Big Sleep (1978) and later worked as a runner on Ridley Scott's Alien (1979) before moving into the art department.
Sallis has worked extensively as a set decorator on films including Aliens (1986), Driving Miss Daisy (1989), JFK (1991), Twelve Monkeys (1995), Event Horizon (1997) and Gladiator (2000). He received three Academy Award nominations for Best Art Direction for the first, third and last of these. He has also served as production designer on films such as Welcome to the Punch (2013), The Infiltrator (2016) and Waiting for the Barbarians (2019). Sallis won a Primetime Emmy Award for his work on the television series The Tudors.
