Biography
Dave Martin was an English television and film writer. Born David Ralph Martin on 1 January 1935 in Handsworth, Birmingham, he attended Handsworth Grammar School and later read English at Bristol University. He worked in advertising and as a stagehand at the Bristol Old Vic before beginning his writing career.
Martin is best known for his long collaboration with Bob Baker, with whom he wrote eight serials for Doctor Who between 1971 and 1979, contributing 34 episodes across the Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker eras. Their work included The Claws of Axos (1971), The Three Doctors (1972–73) and The Invisible Enemy (1977), in which they created the characters Omega and K-9. The pair were nicknamed the "Bristol Boys" by the production team. They also wrote episodes of Z-Cars and other series such as Sky and Into the Labyrinth.
Martin died of lung cancer on 30 March 2007 in Bridport, Dorset.
