Biography
David Maysles (1931–1987) was an American documentary filmmaker and a founder of Maysles Films. He worked closely with his older brother Albert as part of the Maysles brothers, specialising in direct cinema.
He directed, produced and edited Salesman (1969) with Albert Maysles and Charlotte Zwerin. He directed, produced and shot Gimme Shelter (1970) with Albert Maysles and Charlotte Zwerin, and directed, produced and shot Grey Gardens (1975) with Albert Maysles, Ellen Hovde and Muffie Meyer. He also appeared uncredited as himself in Grey Gardens.
Maysles was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, and died in New York City.
