Biography
David Shire is an American composer of film and television scores and stage musicals. Born in 1937 in Buffalo, New York, he studied at Yale University, where he began a long collaboration with lyricist Richard Maltby Jr.
Shire is known for his scores for films including The Conversation (1974), The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974), All the President's Men (1976), parts of Saturday Night Fever (1977), Return to Oz (1985) and Zodiac (2007). He has also composed for Broadway musicals such as Baby (1983) and Big (1996). He won an Academy Award for the song "It Goes Like It Goes" from Norma Rae (1979).
