Biography

David Thacker is an English theatre, film and television director. Born on 21 December 1950 in Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire, he was educated at the University of York. He began his career in regional theatre, serving as artistic director of the Duke's Playhouse in Lancaster and later the Young Vic in London, and as director-in-residence at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Thacker has directed numerous stage productions, earning Laurence Olivier Awards for Pericles and other honours. His television work includes the 1992 BBC adaptation of A Doll's House, which received a BAFTA nomination for best single drama, as well as Death of a Salesman, Measure for Measure and episodes of series such as Waking the Dead, Foyle's War and Silent Witness. He is married to actress Margot Leicester.
