Biography
Tony McHale is a British writer, director and producer. Born Anthony John Wright in Bradford, West Yorkshire, in September 1950, he trained at Rose Bruford College before beginning his career as an actor.
He wrote episodes of the series Boon (1986) and contributed as both writer and director to Casualty (1986). McHale was a regular writer on EastEnders (1985) from its early years, becoming the first to write 100 episodes, and later worked as story consultant and director on the soap. In 1998 he co-created the medical drama Holby City with Mal Young and served as its executive producer and showrunner from 2007 to 2010.
His other writing credits include episodes of The Bill (1984), Silent Witness (1996) and Waking the Dead (2001).
