Biography
David Weisbart (1915–1967) was an American film editor and producer. Born in Los Angeles, he began working as an editor for Warner Bros. in 1942 and edited around twenty films there over the following decade, including Mildred Pierce (1945) and A Streetcar Named Desire (1951). He received an Academy Award nomination for editing Johnny Belinda (1948).
In 1952 Weisbart became the youngest producer under contract at Warner Bros. His early producing credits include Them! (1954) and Rebel Without a Cause (1955). He later moved to 20th Century Fox, where he produced Love Me Tender (1956), the first Elvis Presley film, as well as three further Presley pictures and April Love (1957).
Weisbart created the television series Custer (also known as The Legend of Custer), which ran for seventeen episodes in 1967. He was producing Valley of the Dolls (1967) at the time of his death from heart failure in Los Angeles.
