Biography
Derek Fowlds was an English actor. Born Derek James Fowlds on 2 September 1937 in Wandsworth, London, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and made his West End debut in The Miracle Worker (1961). He appeared in films including Frankenstein Created Woman (1967) and Tower of Evil (1972) before becoming known for television roles.
Fowlds played Bernard Woolley in the BBC sitcom Yes Minister (1980–1984) and its sequel Yes, Prime Minister (1986–1988). He later portrayed Sergeant Oscar Blaketon in the ITV series Heartbeat (1992–2010) across its full run. Other credits include appearances in Inspector Morse (1987) and earlier work on The Basil Brush Show (1969–1973). He died on 17 January 2020 in Bath, Somerset.
