Biography
Derrick Sherwin was an English television writer, story editor, producer and actor. He began his career in the theatre as a set designer and stage manager before becoming an actor in television and films. He later turned to freelance writing, contributing scripts to series including Z-Cars (1967) and Crossroads.
Sherwin joined Doctor Who (1963) in 1967 as story editor. He wrote the first episode of The Mind Robber (uncredited) and the script for The Invasion (1968), which introduced the UNIT organisation. He served as producer for the final Patrick Troughton serial The War Games (1969) and Jon Pertwee's debut Spearhead from Space (1970), overseeing the transition to colour. He also co-produced Paul Temple for the BBC.
