Biography
Dick Hyman is an American jazz pianist and composer. Born on 8 March 1927 in New York City, he studied classical piano before developing an interest in jazz while at Columbia University.
Hyman has composed, arranged and supervised music for numerous films, most notably a series of Woody Allen productions including Zelig (1983), The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985), Broadway Danny Rose (1984), Radio Days (1987), Bullets Over Broadway (1994), Mighty Aphrodite (1995), Everyone Says I Love You (1996) and Sweet and Lowdown (1999). He also composed the score for Moonstruck (1987).
In addition to his film work, Hyman has recorded more than 100 albums, served as artistic director of the Jazz in July series at New York’s 92nd Street Y for twenty years, and received the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award in 2017.
