Biography

Don Barclay (born Donn Van Tassel Barclay) was an American actor, artist and caricaturist. He was born on 26 December 1892 in Ashland, Oregon, and died on 16 October 1975 in Palm Springs, California.

He began his career as a cartoonist for the San Francisco Examiner before moving into comedy and burlesque. He appeared in the Ziegfeld Follies and performed with the Keystone Cops from around 1915. Barclay later provided voice work and live-action reference for Walt Disney films, including the Doorman in Cinderella (1950), Other Cards in Alice in Wonderland (1951), and Mr Binnacle in Mary Poppins (1964). His caricatures of celebrities are held in the Library of Congress.
